Old Wives Tales - What will our babies gender be?

I have been having a hard time finding time to film a gender video this week, so I decided to do a blog post instead.

There are lots of Old Wives Tales relating to pregnancy gender. I went through 24 thanks to a post on http://babyandbump.momtastic.com/ and filled in my answers.

Old Wives Tale #1: Heart Rate 
If the baby’s heart rate is above 140 bpm, it is said that the baby will be a girl. If it is under 140 bpm, then it will be a boy. We heard the heartbeat last time on Monday 08/18 and it was at 154bpm. This is the lowest heartbeat we have gotten. Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #2: Shape of Belly
If you are carrying high with a big, round belly, you are having a girl. If you are carrying low with a smaller belly that sticks straight out, it’s a boy. (I’m pretty sure I am carrying low, but I can’t tell for sure because my bump is not SUPER noticeable yet) Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #3: Ring Test
Using a string, hang your wedding ring over your pregnant belly. You are having a girl if the ring swings back and forth and it’s a boy if it swings in a circle. (I tried this on myself, and had my mom try it over her stomach. She is obviously not pregnant. We both used my ring and got different results.) Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #4: Acne
If you have acne while pregnant, it’s a girl. It’s thought that acne during pregnancy is caused by the extra hormones. Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #5: Cravings
People believe that if you are craving salty foods while pregnant, you can count on having a boy. If you crave sweets, fruit, and orange juice, you are having a little girl. (I have always loved sweets, and chocolate. I liked fruit a lot in the first trimester, but I gravitate toward salty snacks.) Prediction outcome: Inconclusive

Old Wives Tale #6: Skin under Left Eye
The eye test is when a “V” or “branches” appear when you pull down the skin under your left eye. If you see a “V” or “branches” in the white part, you’re having a girl. Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #7: Time of Conception
The person that is most aggressive in bed at the time of conception is the opposite of what the baby will be. (Ummmm... this is a little confusing depending on your definition of aggressive) Prediction outcome: Inconclusive

Old Wives Tale #8: Legs
If your legs get really big, you’re having a boy. If your legs stay in shape and lean, it’s a girl. I think it’s too early for me to tell on this one. (Well, as far as I know I'm only gaining in the torso, legs seem to be the same) Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #9: Moodiness and a Little Pecker

If you are really moody, you are having a girl since you have extra girl hormones in you. Your pregnancy will make you smile and be happier if you are having a boy because there’s a little penis inside you. (I don’t know how I feel about this one. Some days I’m super happy some days Im not. But I am ALWAYS happy I was able to get pregnant.) Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #10: Chinese Gender Chart
The Chinese Gender Chart claims to have an accuracy rate of over 90%. It is based on how old the mother is at conception and the month that she conceived. Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #11: Mom’s Beauty
Basically you are having a girl if your beauty disappears during pregnancy. It is said that the girl “steals” the mother’s beauty. If you think that pregnancy has never made you look more beautiful, a little boy it is. (Hard to say. Lately I feel like I’ve looked better. But mostly because I’m too tired to care what I look like half the time!) Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #12: Dream of Sex of Baby
If you have dreams that you are having a boy, you will have a girl. If you dream about having a girl, it will be a boy. Dreams show the opposite of what you are having. (I have all had ALL boy dreams until recently and I had 1 girl dream) Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #13: Clumsy vs. Graceful
If the pregnant woman is graceful throughout her pregnancy, she’s having a girl. If she becomes clumsy, she’s having a boy. (I have actually been less clumsy than usual!) Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #14: Side You Most Rest On
If a pregnant woman prefers to lay on her left side, she’s having a boy. If she prefers resting on her right side, she’s having a girl. Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #15: Dad’s Weight Gain
If the dad-to-be gains weight while you are pregnant, it’s a girl. If he doesn’t gain weight, you’re having a boy. (I’m not sure if Adam has gained any weight since I got pregnant but I don’t think so) Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #16: Breast Test
If a pregnant woman’s left breast is larger than the right breast, she’s having a girl. If the right breast is larger, it’s a boy. (This one is a little harder to judge because this was the same before I got pregnant) Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #17: What Do You Think?
71% of the time, the mom-to-be knows what she is having. Prediction outcome: BOY 

Old Wives Tale #18: Morning Sickness
If you had a smooth pregnancy with no morning sickness, it’s a boy. If you were sick or felt really nauseous during your pregnancy, count on a girl. Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #19: Areolae
If your areolae (the part around your nips) have darkened, it’s a boy. If they haven't, its a girl. Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #20: Protein
When a pregnant woman craves meat and cheese, count on a boy. (Um I have actually considered becoming a vegetarian because I have disliked meat so much!) Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #21: Feet
Are your feet colder now that you are pregnant? If so, you just might be having a boy. If your feet have stayed the same before pregnancy and during, you’re having a little girl. Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #22: Headaches
If you are having headaches, you might be carrying a boy. (I have had a couple headaches, but way less than I had before pregnancy) Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #23: Baby Names
It is said that when you can only think of specific names for a boy or a girl, you will have that particularly baby. (I have always thought of mostly girl names in the past, but I have been pretty set on the boys name I like) Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #24: Urine
What color is your pee? If it is bright yellow, you will have a little boy. If your urine is a dull yellow, plan on a girl.Prediction outcome: BOY

I'm so excited to finally share the news with the world. Bringing a child into the world is a life changing experience and I am so grateful to be blessed enough to do it. 

If you're new to my blog, Adam and I have been trying to conceive since our wedding day (May 11th, 2013) In October of 2013 I suffered a miscarriage at 12 weeks. As hard as that experience was, we have finally picked ourselves up and were able to try again. 

I plan on using this site to share my pregnancy experiences with you each week, as well as still attempt to post beauty related things as well. If you're partial to one or the other please let me know.

Top 5 Things That Annoy Me About The Beauty Community/Youtube

Today I want to talk a little bit about YouTube. I absolutely love the beauty community on YouTube, however, lately there are a few things that are really annoying me.

I by no means have a ton of subscribers. Last time I checked I was somewhere around 300. I have posted over 100 videos in the past year, and have been constantly working on my channel and increasing subscribers. I feel the need to vent a little bit. So below I have listed the top 5 most annoying things about Youtube.

1.       Comments asking me to subscribe to your channel

Now this in itself does not annoy me. HOWEVER, if you want to post a comment on one of my videos asking me to “check out your channel and subscribe” the very least you can do is actually be subscribed to my channel.

I find it so annoying to read a comment from someone saying “I love your videos, I’ve been watching you forever, come subscribe to my channel” when you can’t even take the 2 seconds and click the subscribe link on my channel first?

Guess what? If you were actually subscribed, I would have gone to your channel, but since you are not. No thanks!

2.       Tag Videos

The actual idea of a TAG video is pretty great. A tag video consists of a video with whatever content you desire, and at the end of the video you “tag” other Youtubbers to also do the video. The reason this is great, is typically when you do a video you were “tagged” in, you mention who “tagged” you and it’s a way to let your views check out other people’s videos.

The problem I’m having with tag videos is, it’s really hard to find out if someone tagged you. Unless you are tagged by someone you commonly watch, you only seem to find out if someone else you know watches it and notifies you.

I find it extremely annoying when you tag someone in a video, and then they create the video and don’t even mention who tagged them. Now I can understand if you have 100,000 subscribers and are getting tagged in multiple videos. You probably aren’t going to remember the name of every YouTube that tagged you. But if you have less than 500 subscribers and you say “I was tagged by this great girl on YouTube, but I can’t remember her name because I have so many subscribers….” Come’on really?

3.       Collab Videos

I really like Collab videos, for the same reasons I like tag videos. It’s a great way to share subscribers and let your viewers know about other great youtubers. I’m willing to collaborate with pretty much anybody, as long as they have decent lighting, and make video’s  I’m willing to suggest to my subscribers.

When I do a collab video, I take the time to look through the channel of the person I’m working with, know a little bit about them, and be able to explain to my viewers who they are, and why they should check out the video.

Now it really bothers me when you see a collab video from someone who didn’t put in any work. I recently saw a video where the girl said the channel name wrong, didn’t know the other girls name, and didn’t even bother to link her video or channel in the description box. If you’re going to collaborate, at least show that you put in a little effort please?

4.       Lying about unboxing videos

If you have never seen an unboxing video, this might not make a lot of sense to you. Typically when someone receives a package in the mail, an unboxing video is when you go on camera and record what you got. Some people chose to do this by not opening the box and opening it on camera for everyone to see, some chose to look at it first and then record it.

Regardless of which way you chose to record your unboxing videos, stop lying about it! It drives me crazy when someone says “I haven’t seen anything in my box” and if you look back two videos, they are using eyeliner in a tutorial they received in the IPSY bag they “didn’t look at.”

At the very least, if you’re going to lie about it, cover your tracks a little better?

5.       Sponsored Videos

Last but not least are sponsored videos. I know a lot of youtube viewers hate sponsored videos. There is a very thin line when it comes to the word sponsor. Some view sponsorship as being paid to do a video, some view it as free product, some view it as being paid for a positive review. I have no problem with any of these videos except for the last one. If you’re being paid to do a positive review, you better actually believe it.

My problem with sponsored videos is not the creator. It’s the viewer. If you’re honest about receiving a product for free, what is the problem? Sometimes products that are sent for review are some of the best products. A lot of times, they are products I never would have thought to buy with my own money. A ton of times, I end up repurchasing. If you’re lying about a video being sponsored however, that’s where I have a problem.

Regardless of things that annoy me about Youtube, it’s an amazing community and a lot of fun. This is just a chance for me to vent a little bit, and maybe shed some light to others on some of these things.

Ipsy - April 2014

One of my favorite parts of every month is subscription services. Around the middle of the month I'm always running to the mailbox to look for my favorite one. Ipsy.

If you don't know, Ipsy is a $10 per month subscription service. You receive 4-5 deluxe/full sized samples from great brands related to the cosmetic industry. Each month has a theme, and comes in a cute little customized cosmetic bag. 

The theme for April 2014's Ipsy bag is "Beauty Rocks" Below is a picture of what this months bag looks like. 

Now, lets get into the fun stuff! 

The products: 

Rainbow Honey Nail Polish 

The first thing I got in my bag was nail polish. At first glance the bottle looks really cool. Its a blue glittery color. 

I tested the nail polish over a metallic blue Color Club nail polish and was pretty impressed. If you like glitter nails. This is a great polish for you. You can check out the swatch on my nail in my youtube unboxing video I will post at the end of this blog.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil Travel Size

Color:  "Black Velvet"

Hands down my favorite eyeliner is Urban Decay's Glide-On Pencil collection. I use the color "Perversion" in my waterline pretty much every day. I also love the color "Zero." When I saw that I got the color "Black Velvet" I was really excited. 

Its a gorgeous black color that glides on really smooth, and lasts all day. This is my favorite product in this months Ipsy bag!

Demeter- Jasmine Perfume Oil Roll On

The one downfall of a lot of subscription services are tiny perfume samples. I have to say, if you're going to do a perfume sample. This is the way to go. The sample comes in a roll-on glass bottle which is cute, and has a nice cap if you want to throw it in your bag. 

The scent however, for me was just okay. Its a pretty strong floral scent which I don't normally gravitate to, but it isn't horrible. 

dr. brandt® microdermabrasion

This has to be my least favorite thing in this month's Ipsy bag. As far as microdermabrasion, I really don't know a whole lot about it. I'm stuck in my usual skin care routine, and to be honest with you I think it works pretty well. 

I haven't tried the sample yet, I might give it away. Have you tried it before? Am I going to miss something great? I would love to know!

Mary Kay At Play™ - Jelly Lip Gloss

The sample size for this one is awesome. Its a full sized product in a nude color. What more could you ask for? I like the Mary Kay brand, one of my favorite lipstick colors is by Mary Kay. This gloss is pretty, the downfall? It's really sticky.

Lets sum it up. I got a cute cosmetic bag, 5 makeup samples, all of them really good sizes. Am I satisfied? Absolutely! Ipsy is a great service and I'm so glad I stumbled upon it last year, because I absolutely love it!

Is 29 the new 19?

If there is one thing I'm dreading this month, its my birthday. In 7 day's I'm going to get one year closer to 30 and one year closer to death.

Okay maybe death is a little excessive. Seriously though, does anyone really care about 29?

In the past I've always been really disappointed in my birthday. I get really excited to celebrate the day I was born, and somehow I feel like it manages to always fall short. So now, I just don't get excited.

How do you celebrate a birthday when you become an adult? I can't think of one thing I want to do. I'm not much of a drinker these days. I'm not into drinking the way I was in my early twenties. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

How do you celebrate your birthday every year? Do you go out and do something special or stay home and relax?

If nothing else fails, at least I know I can fall asleep in my new Sleep Number bed ,and at least that will make me happy!

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

I was recently sent the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask in a Target Voxbox from Influenster.com for review. I wanted to wait until I had used the product for a while before expressing my true feelings on it. After 19 applications I've concluded; save your money.

The mask comes in a plastic jar. It's 80ML and at first glance, it looks like a high end product. Priced at $23.00 on Target.com it is a bit spendy for a drugstore product. The packaging is made very well, and looks cute sitting on my vanity. What it comes down to however, is how well does the product work? 

The instructions tell you to use toner on your face, followed by emollient (which I had to google to find out is moisturizer) and then apply the mask. In the morning, you're instructed to wash your face and find suddenly brightened skin! 

To be honest with you, I find this whole process a complete waste of time. I've followed the instructions perfectly and find absolutely no difference when I wake up in the morning. The product really did nothing. 

The product applies clear, which is a plus because it doesn't transfer all over my $150 sheet set. The downfall of being clear however is sometimes I would forget to wash it off! 

All in all, I'm not sure if the product works for other people or not. This one just isn't for me.
